The 2026 SportPesa National Sevens Circuit has received a major financial boost after gaming company SportPesa announced a record KES 34.14 million sponsorship package, the largest investment ever made into the competition.
The sponsorship, which is more than double last year’s KES 16.5 million commitment, underscores SportPesa’s continued support for Kenyan rugby and its commitment to nurturing talent through the country’s premier club sevens competition.
The six-leg circuit, scheduled to run from July 25 to September 13, is widely regarded as the main pathway for players aspiring to represent Kenya at the international level through Shujaa, the Kenya Lionesses and the national 15-a-side teams.
Speaking during the launch, SportPesa Public Relations and Advertising Manager Willis Ojwang said the circuit has consistently proven its value in producing elite rugby talent.
“The National Sevens Circuit remains the foundation of Kenyan rugby development. Many of the players who have gone on to represent Kenya at continental championships, the Olympic Games and other major tournaments first made their mark in this competition,” he said.
Of the KES 34.14 million package, KES 16.14 million will directly support the competitive structure of the tournament through host club funding, Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) operations and prize money. The remaining funds will be invested in live broadcasts, content production, fan engagement initiatives and official merchandise.
Each host club will receive KES 1 million to stage its tournament, while the KRU Secretariat will receive KES 6 million to facilitate organization and administration of the circuit.
KRU Chairperson Harriet Okatch welcomed the renewed partnership, describing the sponsorship as a critical investment in the future of Kenyan rugby.
“This support gives clubs the resources they need to host quality tournaments while creating opportunities for players to showcase their talent. It also strengthens the pathway to our national teams and supports the long-term growth of the sport,” she said.
The 2026 circuit begins with the Prinsloo 7s in Nakuru on July 25-26 before moving to Dala 7s, Kabeberi 7s, Driftwood 7s, Embu 7s and concluding with Christie 7s in September.
Defending champions KCB Rugby will be targeting a sixth overall title after dominating the 2025 season, although strong challenges are expected from Strathmore Leos, Kabras Sugar, Menengai Oilers and Kenya Harlequin.
The increased sponsorship is expected to enhance competition standards, improve fan experiences and further cement the National Sevens Circuit’s role as the backbone of rugby development in Kenya.
