APS Bomet head coach Sammy “Pamzo” Omollo has been named the SportPesa League Coach of the Month for April after orchestrating a perfect run that has significantly boosted his side’s survival bid.
The experienced tactician guided APS Bomet through an unbeaten and flawless month, collecting maximum points and restoring confidence in a team that had struggled earlier in the season.
Beyond the results, the award carried deep emotional significance for Omollo, who is still grieving the loss of his wife earlier this year.
On Mother’s Day, during the presentation ceremony, Pamzo dedicated the accolade to his late wife, affectionately known as “Mama Denzel,” describing her as a key pillar in his life and coaching career.
“Today being Mother’s Day, I want to dedicate this award to my beloved wife, Mama Denzel. She was an inspiration to me and supported me throughout my coaching journey. I miss her, and this award is for her,” Omollo said after receiving the trophy and KES 75,000 prize from SportPesa.
On the pitch, APS Bomet enjoyed a dominant April, registering victories over Sofapaka, Ulinzi Stars, and Posta Rangers, with the team also keeping clean sheets in all three matches.
The run has marked a sharp turnaround in form, with the side now showing renewed discipline, structure, and belief as they fight to secure their place in the top flight.
Despite the impressive streak, Omollo struck a cautious tone, insisting that the team must maintain focus until safety is mathematically secured.
“We know there’s still work to do to secure safety, so I’m challenging the boys to keep working hard. There is still a lot of football to play, and anything can happen,” he said.
APS Bomet’s resurgence has continued beyond April, with the club extending their winning run to five matches and remaining unbeaten in eight straight league games. Their latest 2-0 away win over Mathare United further strengthened their survival campaign.
The transformation under Pamzo has been widely praised, with his tactical organisation and defensive solidity playing a key role in the club’s revival.
Mara Sugar head coach Francis Xavier finished as runner-up for the monthly award after also guiding his side to three wins, though his team played one additional fixture during the review period.
